![]() ![]() From the 2 short tests that I've done at my local airstrip, the sigma seems to stick much better.Īny comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. However, as someone with a 5d Mk3, the AF never really felt right, I remember one day I was trying to shoot a grey metal plane on a grey sky and the tamron didn't even register. considering that the tamron is $800 cheaper than the sigma, it does present great value. That said, the tamron and sigma 150-600 both have great IQ. Don't get me wrong, the 120-300 sports is an amazing lens, but once it goes through the 2x TC, IQ drops off significantly, and so does AF. I'll be selling the tamron in a few days as I was only really keeping it to do a comparison against the Sigma 150-600.Ĭonclusion: Right off the bat, the sigma 120-300 sports with 2x TC is a writeoff. None of my lenses have been micro-adjusted and they are as is. These are full size jpgs from a 5d mk3, saved from Lightroom 5.7 90% quality. I set up all three lenses, Sigma 120-300 with Sigma 2x TC, Sigma 150-600 Sports & the Tamron 150-600 all on a tripod, taking the next door neighbours numberplates. Just bear in mind the the photos below are all static, so AF doesn't really play that much of a part, as opposed to a (metal) bird in flight that would need precise AF. I've gone to my local airfield a couple of times and are reasonably happy with the results I've gotten, but I do have a fractured shoulder so it's either the tripod or severe pain when throwing around 4kg of kit. I think I have only one of several copies in AustraliaĪnyway, here's the test shots. I placed my order with digidirect on 5th Nov and it turned up on the 26th Nov. The 150-600 sigma has weather sealing, horizontal panning IS (the tamron does not) and the AF coupled with the usb dock was music to my ears. I love my 120-300 but when it goes through a 2x TC, the IQ falls off substantially. So when Sigma announced a 150-600 Sports I was chomping at the bit. Having used it a number of times on a 5d Mk3, the tamron always had iffy AF. $1200 for a long lens with apparently great image quality. Last year I bought a Sigma 120-300 Sports & 2x TC and was never really happy with the quality. The Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG DN OS Sport is a super-telephoto lens that has been designed from the ground up for L mount and Sony E mount cameras.
